It's almost 2006!!!

YAY! My first thought was that 2006 has got to be better than 2005! I could make a huge list of 2005's crappy happenings.

BUT!

I decided to look at it in terms of how blessed I am instead. So many positive things have happened despite the other...

1. At my grandma's funeral, we reconnected with cousins and an aunt and uncle we hadn't seen in years.
2. I finished my internship and my dissertation! I will never, ever be ABD (i.e., all but dissertation)...the fear of anyone who works on a Ph.D. :o)
3. I got to graduate with some of my best friends because I did finish that dissertation! That was awesome!
4. The car wreck my grandma got into (as [livejournal.com profile] deathisyourart said) saved her life because the cancer was found before it got too big, and the treatments worked to shrink it! YAY!
5. My grandma got married...hee...she eloped with her 89-year-old fiance and she told me first!
6. I got to move back to Texas (thank goodness I'm home!) and I got a new job at an amazing amazing place and get to work with awesome people!
7. I'm closer to my family in Houston! And I've made some wonderful friends since I've been here.
8. I didn't lose all my belongings in the hurricane, and FEMA gave me enough money to move, break my old lease, buy a washer and dryer, and buy a new desk to replace the one that was destroyed!
9. My online friends...my dear flist have been some of my biggest supporters during the craziness of the last few months due to Katrina and Rita, and I will never forget your kindness and encouragement and help. *sniffles* *HUGS* :o)

Happy New Year to you too!
You're absolutely right to focus on the positive, and if you say that with the woes that beset you then everyone should definitely take a leaf from your book. And yay we both finished dissertations this year! ::punches the air::

*HUGS* You're a sweetie! :o) And oooo...I didn't know you finished yours this year, too! How awesome are you? :o) What's yours about? And what did you get your degree in?

[identity profile] lillianmorgan.livejournal.com 2006-01-01 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
When you posted that, I realised I'd totally forgot to tell my f-list. Unfortunately, the news came in the middle of the move, and slightly got swallowed.
What's yours about? And what did you get your degree in?
Mine was about gender and technology. My degree in culture and communication. And because my memory is really bad, and you? :)

LOL...I totally understand how news like that can get swallowed in the midst of other chaos! I also think that you're pretty new on my flist, so don't worry...you didn't forget anything!

I got my Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and my dissertation was on the validity of the human representational variable (which is a variable on the Rorschach Inkblot Test) with fourth, fifth, and sixth graders! :o)

Mine was about gender and technology. My degree in culture and communication.
How fascinating!!! What do you do for a living since you graduated?

Psychology really does fascinate me. I hope you can put your dissertation into good practice.

Heh! Currently I job-hunt. 2006 should bring a new job :)
Thanks as well for the link, that looks right up my street!
